Hey guys back again with another Illustration Friday. I had a hard time coming up with the concept for this one. All I kept thing about was plants! Then it hit me the best plant of all…one that eats people and drinks blood! So I decided to try to do a small piece based on Little Shop Of Horrors! I took yet another swing at watercolor. I still and trying to figure it all out. I fought with it this week but powered through, even though I just found out that my studio is haunted…don’t worry about it, ill get more into that as I post more illustrations.
Back again with another “Illustration Friday”.
When trying to think of the concept of this, the only thing I kept going back to was James Bond saying “I’ll take it shaken, not stirred.” So I just went for it.
The idea behind this is that the bartender dude has no idea who this is and how he likes his drink. Mr.Bond being a cocky jerk draws his pistol when he sees the bartender stirring his drink! I tried to do this piece all in one sitting from concept to final watercolor…mission accomplished! I’m still learning this watercolor medium but I really do like using it. I didnt scan it this time and instead took a picture…I feel it looks a little closer to the real piece, more so then a scan.
Thanks for peepin’…Crits welcome.
So I am back in the saddle again with this “art” thing. I got a new creative space (The Lions Nest) and a whole new attitude, ala Patti LaBelle. So I decided to kick things off by doing an Illustration Friday. I have always loved doing stuff for I.F. I normally work in a digital medium, but I really wanted to try some real media. So I took a stab at watercolor or” watercolour” for my friends to the north…and I had fun. I feel like I was a little heavy handed on pigment. What I really wanted was nice light wash. Also the scan of this is horrible, so if anyone has suggestions on how to capture real media digitally, please let me know.
As far as content, this was on of the first ideas I had when I though about warnings…don’t know why. I mean its been months since I poked a bear with a stick.
So for the past few 9 moths or so i started doing a podcast called “Potato Potato Podcast“. It’s a lot of fun and i get to try to be creative and funny at the same time. Anyhow we did a live show over the holidays and made some sketches for the breaks. I thought id post them here to share with all of you!
Here is the first time shooting and editing.
So here is my take on “strong”. Man I wish I didn’t have a regular job so I could spend more time on these. I like the idea of having ridiculous circus acts. I may go deeper into creating more and more ridiculous ones just because. I am doing a watercolor version of this piece at home…I may post that when I am done. I’m just so slow at using watercolor. Oh well…between playing BEATLES™ ROCK BAND™ and watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua I was able to come up with this!
I wish I was lying about watching that movie!
So here is my new one. I got the idea right away for some reason. I have had my share of pouring salt on snails. I don’t remember enjoying it, well maybe a little, I mean come on, you hold the POWER OF LIFE in your sweet little, chubby, booger coated fingers. Who would have thought something so enjoyable on eggs could be so so deadly! And really who was the first kid to do this…and how many other things did he/she pour salt on before hitting the JACKPOT!!!
As for the coloring i have tried to stay away from digital coloring. I find that having SO many options actually makes it more difficult. You don’t have to think as much, and for me I need all the thinking time I can get! But for the sake of time I colored this one digitally…hopefully back to traditional next week!
So I decided that I should maybe start drawing again…I mean, I did go to school for it. But now that I live the life as a “designer” I don’t get to do much drawing or original art. This made me realize, now that I am an old man I need to start doing the things I like to do….like drawing, picking fights with toddlers and ballroom dancing. Here is my quick piece on “wrapped”.
